Overview

Talking about abuse can be really stressful. If someone comes to you for help, they need to feel safe and supported. They need to be heard, and their disclosure needs to be taken seriously.

Managing a safeguarding disclosure is all about handling concerns about abuse sensitively and effectively. Anyone could be trusted with a disclosure, particularly if your job involves close contact with children or vulnerable adults. If you find yourself in this position, you have a responsibility to respond appropriately and do what you can to prevent any further harm.

Outline Learning Objectives:

  • Recognise how to support people’s feelings so they feel safe and comfortable talking about abuse
  • Identify appropriate responses for a safe disclosure
  • Demonstrate how to record and report a disclosure effectively
