Gangs are intertwined with youth violence and criminality. It is essential we recognise the extent of the problem and understand how to safeguard our at-risk youth.

This course overs a comprehensive overview to the subject of gangs and youth violence, helping the learner to understand what gangs are and what they do, the part women and girls play in gangs, and what can be done to prevent gang recruitment.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe how gangs are defined, and how can impact and violence is difficult to measure
  • Explain how being in a gang impacts on their education and their future, and point out some potential windows of opportunity to steer them away from gang life
  • Challenge your own thinking about violent youth 
  • Explain the importance of intervening early and some ways to do that

Anyone working with young people. gang members or their families, or those impacted by gang violence.
