Self-harm in young people is a serious matter and it can sometimes be difficult to understand. In this first module we look at what self-harm is, the reasons for it, and how to respond to a disclosure.

Objectives

In this course you will learn:

  • Understand how and why young people self-harm
  • Know the common risk factors and who is at risk
  • Be aware of the common misconceptions about self-harm, and people's attitudes towards it
  • Take all instances of self-harm seriously
  • Audience:

    This course is for anyone working with children and young people in a safeguarding role.
