Overview

This e-learning course offers a good solid foundation for working with and caring for people with disabilities. It is useful for professional carers as well as family members. It covers best practice and legal obligations for protecting people with learning disability from abuse and neglect.

The course is broken down in to 5 bite-sized units with the following titles:

  • Introduction to Learning Disability
  • Principles of Learning Disability Support
  • Health and Safety in Learning Disability Services
  • Your Role as a Learning Disability Worker
  • Protecting People with Learning Disabilities from Abuse

Objectives

On completion of this course learners will be able to:

  • Identify the responsibilities that we all have to promote health and safety at work
  • Explain the basics of fire safety
  • Understand the Law and the need for policies about abuse and neglect
  • Recognise the different signs of abuse and neglect and act on them
  • Explain whistleblowing procedures if they suspect abuse
  • Describe how attitudes to people with learning disabilities have changed over the years
  • Identify the importance of promoting certain values in their work
  • Explain their responsibilities regarding confidentiality and reporting
