Blockchain for Healthcare eLearning Course
Overview
Blockchain has attracted enormous attention in healthcare, promising secure records and tamper-proof supply chains. This practical, jargon-free course gives healthcare professionals a clear view of what blockchain is, where it is transforming drug traceability and credentialing today, how to work with these tools in practice and how to use it responsibly around patient data. Four short units.
Target Audience
Healthcare professionals, from clinical and operational staff to administrators and leaders. No technical background required.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion, learners will gain a full and clear understanding of:
- What blockchain is and isn’t, in plain language
- Where blockchain is genuinely live in healthcare today, from drug traceability to provider credentialing
- How to tell the difference between a real deployment, a pilot and marketing hype
- How to work with blockchain-based tools in a healthcare setting in practice
- The specific risks and rules that apply to blockchain holding health data, including the immutability tension
- How to talk about blockchain confidently and realistically with colleagues and patients
Features and Benefits
- Written for complete beginners: practical, jargon-free and easy to follow.
- Current and fact-checked: researched against up-to-date 2026 sources, including the latest case studies and regulation.
- Four short, focused units with gated progression; each unit unlocks once the previous one is passed.
- Light, formative interactions running through every unit (click-to-reveal, quick knowledge checks and estimate-and-reveal sliders), never scored.
- An end-of-unit quiz that finishes with a marking screen showing which answers were right or wrong, with a short explanation for each.
- Easy retakes: a failed quiz drops the learner straight back into freshly shuffled questions, with no need to click through the unit again.

Unit 2: Blockchain Across Healthcare
- Pharmaceutical supply chain verification (the MediLedger Network) and the DSCSA law behind it, including its real deadline history
- Provider credentialing pilots (the Synaptic Health Alliance and ProCredEx) and clinical trial data-integrity pilots
- What’s genuinely live, what’s still a pilot and what’s marketing
- The patient-record blockchain hype cycle and the projects that quietly closed
Unit 3: Working with Blockchain in Practice
- How a drug verification transaction actually works
- Working with traceability and credentialing tools day to day
- FHIR and interoperability: the more common real-world approach
- A practical checklist for working with blockchain tools safely
Unit 4: Using Blockchain Responsibly
- The tension between an immutable ledger and HIPAA (US) and UK data protection rights
- The off-chain design pattern that resolves it, including cryptographic erasure
