Overview

Access to the internet and connected devices can significantly benefit the students you work with. They use it to conduct research and socialise, so it’s embedded in their personal and educational lives. But online spaces aren’t without their risks. How can you support students to remain safe while taking advantage of how useful and empowering the internet can be?

Learning about the risks associated with online activity and how to identify if students may have encountered them will help you meet your safeguarding responsibilities. Understanding how they’re taught about online safety and the steps schools must take to protect them will help you contribute fully to your school’s safeguarding culture.

Outline Learning Objectives:

  • Recognise the four key areas of risk associated with unsafe online behaviour, so you understand the impact they can have on students
  • Identify the signs of unsafe online behaviour, so you can safeguard all students
  • Recognise how online safety must be managed and embedded in the curriculum, so you’re aware of how it’s addressed in the educational environment
