Safeguarding is a shared responsibility. Everyone working with students needs to remain vigilant for concerns and collaborate with other professionals to prioritise student welfare. But not everyone involved in safeguarding students is a professional. Parents and caregivers have a vital role to play. How can you collaborate effectively with them, to take a holistic and child-centred approach to safeguarding?

Collaborating with parents and caregivers helps everyone involved with safeguarding the child understand concerns and how to overcome them. This helps create a safe environment for students, inside and outside of the educational environment. It’ll also allow you and other safeguarding professionals to gain a complete picture of the child’s life and experiences, so you can creatively approach the challenges they face.

Outline Learning Objectives:

  • Recognise the importance of collaborating with parents and caregivers, so you can meet your responsibilities as outlined in statutory guidance
  • Recognise disguised compliance, so you can overcome it to safeguard students
  • Identify good practice when working with parents and caregivers, so you can prioritise the welfare of students and families
