Course Overview

Combine and reshape scattered spreadsheets into fast, reliable reports.

Power Query Essentials: Combining and Restructuring Data shows you how to turn scattered spreadsheets into clean, reliable tables ready for reporting. Many datasets look organized but hide problems, such as revenue spread across separate quarter columns or files that never quite line up. This course walks through the core Power Query tools that can fix these issues before the data ever reaches a chart or dashboard.

You start by stacking similar tables together with appending, then join related tables side-by-side with merging to add context like customer or product details. Conditional columns let you flag records, such as low stock or overdue accounts, without writing a single formula. Grouping pre-summarises data so reports load faster, and unpivoting reshapes wide tables into a format charts can actually read. By the end, you will know how to reconcile two data sources, spot mismatches, and build a query that refreshes cleanly every time new data arrives.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Combine multiple tables by appending rows together.
  • Merge related tables to add new context.
  • Build conditional columns using if-then logic.
  • Group data to pre-summarise large datasets.
  • Unpivot wide tables into a structured row format.
  • Reconcile two data sources to flag discrepancies.
  • Clean data before merging to avoid errors.
  • Build refreshable queries that update from source files.
